The Winchesters — Pilot reactions

Lots of spoilers. Lots and lots. So if you haven’t watched this episode yet you probably should before reading my reactions.

You can watch it for free on cwtv.com or in the CW app.

“March 23, 1972. The day Dad came home from the war. And, the day he met Mom. Now, I know this story might sound familiar, but I’m gonna put the pieces together in a way that just might surprise you. And in order to do that, I have to start all the way at the beginning

Mary calls John “Soldier Boy” which made me literally laugh out loud. I shouldn’t be surprised Jensen threw that nod in. Loved it. And this is technically how they met in the story they told Dean.

Mary reminds me of Sarah Paxton in Return to Halloweentown. Which is funny since the actress does come from Disney channel as well.

Starting out with demons right out the gate is a little off considering in season 1 of Supernatural Dean and Sam seemed to think run ins with Demons were rare. Makes me wonder if there was a lull in demon activity starting sometime before Dean was born.

Love that anti-possession charms are present immediately. It wouldn’t feel right without them.

Also love that this started out in Lawrence again. And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the Men of Letters had an office there.

I guess now we know where John got his monsters under the bed parenting etiquette. Although saying you know how to trap it is better than giving your kid a gun.

Okay friends and THAT is why you WEAR your anti-possession charm not just leave it lying around.

Roadtrip time?

“I figured you like your coffee like your world view: black as night” 😂

Love that the supplies are literally at the library. Restock and do research in one convenient stop.

Honestly kinda sad we don’t have Baby for this roadtrip.

“I see the face of everyone I couldn’t save” reminds me of Dean. His mom might now have been the one to raise him but she clearly shines through his character.

I’ll never not refer to sulfur as demon b.o. now.

Feels really weird to see a demon dressed like a hippie.

“Nothing more hydrating than holy water. Want some?” Carlos just casually teaching John to do an exorcism with the words written in a restaurant menu is a whole mood. And so is “Jimi, Janice, Jim Morrison, Amen”. Bisexual king.

I adore how diverse this cast is already. Love it love it love it.

And so begins our obsession with coordinates.

I think the locations involved really reflect Jensen’s involvement. Lawrence, Texas, and New Orleans all have big connections to him.

Four teens in a van solving mysteries. Just give them a dog and we can call them Mystery Inc.

“The only thing worse for how it starts for a hunter is how it ends”. Facts unfortunately. With the exception of kids raised in hunter families. Their beginning isn’t always tragic. The end is unfortunately tho. 😞

Oooo Loup-Garou. Makes sense for NOLA though they usually stay closer to the bayou.

“Saving people, hunting things, I was born for this”. I really thought he was gonna say the full line.

Oh gods. Seeing Dean and baby on screen again literally made me cry.

Now, like I told you, there’s gonna be some surprises. Hell, I’m still trying to find all the puzzle pieces myself. But I’ll explain everything. And, until then, I’ll keep picking the music.

Overall I feel this has a younger CW vibe more like The Vampire Diaries or Secret Circle than Supernatural, but the monsters, classic rock, and emphasis on family did not disappoint and a younger feel makes sense with younger leads. Looking forward to next week!
